Our aims at Sunrise Therapy Centre

To promote the value of mental health & make support accessible

To ensure every child is valued and respected as a unique individual

To promote the value of mental health & make support accessible

We aim to reach as many children as we can who may need some support on their journey. Life can throw all sorts at us, and children should be able to access the psychological support they deserve to work through difficult times in a safe space.

To work holistically in providing the best support we can

To ensure every child is valued and respected as a unique individual

To promote the value of mental health & make support accessible

The child will always be at the centre of our work, but it's really important to have families understand the therapeutic process too. We aim to build strong family relationships in order to further help the child during their time with us.

Underpinning all of our therapeutic work is the aim to build children's self-esteem in the face of whatever challenges they are up agains. Every child is appreciated as their own person and we ensure that their hard work with us is celebrated.

Supporting children emotionally in a way that suits them

How can we help?

As adults, we understand how difficult it can be to get on with the simplest of tasks when we are under stress or have something on our minds. But as adults, we recognise this and can seek support to work through our problems. Children, however, don't have the same understanding of the world and their emotions.

Types of Therapy

Play and Creative Arts Therapy

Play and Creative Arts Therapy

After our initial consultation and depending on what we all feel might work best, we will determine which therapeutic approaches to use. Here's a little more info about two of our main modalities; play and creative arts therapy, and cognitive-behavioural therapy.

Talking therapies will not always work with children, and Play Therapy provides the opportunity for them to work through their difficulties in a more age-appropriate and natural way. Through Play Therapy, children are able to explore new positive coping strategies and build their resilience levels in a safe, therapeutic environment.

CBT

CBT

As children get a little older, they become more aware of their thoughts, and we can use this to help in their therapeutic journey. Teenagers in particular can benefit from challenging the way they think and reflect on their actions ad behaviours in a way that promotes a healthier and more enjoyable lifestyle.

Testimonials

"Laura has worked to create warm and friendly relationships with children, while at the same time developing excellent communication with parents and carers to keep them updated on their child’s progress. Everyone involved in Play Therapy has been extremely positive in their reception of the service, from children to staff and parents. Parents have commented on how much their children love working with Laura and have fed back to staff their appreciation of the service offered... Having seen the work of Laura at St Joseph’s, I would highly recommend Play Therapy to any school looking to provide support to children with a variety of needs."
